The FDIC and the Agriculture Business Council of Kansas City jointly sponsor the Agriculture Banking Conference on June 13, 2019 in Kansas City. Agricultural lending is important because nearly one out of every four community banks is considered a farm bank by the FDIC. These institutions are the primary source of banking services in many U.S. communities, including rural areas and small towns across the nation. The continued ability for farm banks to manage amid changing industry conditions is one of the keys to a strong banking sector. Following a period of prosperity in the agriculture industry, farm banks and other agriculture lenders are now facing a more challenging lending environment. These lenders are managing both short- and long-term risks related to a variety of factors, such as asset quality, liquidity, and demographic shifts. The FDIC Agriculture Banking Conference will facilitate a discussion of agricultural lending trends and risks with a diverse group of stakeholders, including regulators, bankers, policymakers, academics, and industry participants. It will also inform the FDIC’s research and risk analysis publications.
